Rider Report: Meet Ron
For Ron, the open road is more than a way to get from one place to another — it’s therapy, freedom, and a lifelong calling. “I’ve always wanted to ride since being a kid,” he says. “I always ride with a purpose. It just relaxes me.”
That sense of purpose has carried Ron through more than a few wild rides — including some that most riders only hear about in stories. “The wildest thing probably is getting gored in the arm by a deer and staying up on the bike,” he recalls, as if it’s just another day. “Another time we hit one head on, didn’t go down, nobody got hurt. Just went home and got another bike.”
These days, Ron rides with a few more creature comforts. “I’d rather not do without a windshield in my older years,” he admits with a grin. “Younger days, I could go without it, but not anymore. I can ride all day without fatigue, and that’s what I want.”
His road trips are fueled by simple pleasures — a Hershey bar with almonds and a cucumber water. And if his life as a rider had a soundtrack? It’d be pure Americana: Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” and Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”
But beyond the open highways and close calls, Ron’s heart lies in something deeper — giving back. “Open Heart Outlaws is a chance for me to give back to good people who really need help,” he says.
“It’s about showing that there’s still good in this crazy world.”
And with riders like Ron leading the way, there’s no doubt about that.
